How long have you worked for Childbase?

10 years 7 months.

How did you get your early years qualification?

College.

Why did you decide on a career in childcare?

I have always been quite a maternal person. As the oldest of 6 Grandchildren I was always ‘mothering’ my siblings and cousins. Also, childcare just seemed like a natural choice for me as I have always been good with children.

Have you always worked in childcare?

No. Before starting with Childbase I had taken a 4 year break from childcare to care for people suffering with dementia.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy teaching the children new things and giving them new experiences. I am in charge of science within Pre-School and love to see the look of amazement on their faces when we do experiments. It’s also nice when parents come in the next day and tell me that their child has been talking about our science experiments at home.

What is the hardest part of working with children?

It can be tiring and hectic but it’s good to work as a team so you can support each other.

What keeps you working in childcare?

I enjoy it. Every day is different.

Why do you enjoy working for Childbase?

I feel that I matter. I like that we are an employee owned company. The benefits are very good. I use the pension scheme, the health care scheme and the savings scheme. I also like the events that are put on for the staff i.e. the Annual Ball.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in childcare?

Pinterest is your best friend for activity ideas.
