How did you get your early years qualification?

I attended college to gain my level two qualification and I had my placements at a primary school. I then went on to gain my level three whilst working full time.

Why did you decide on a career in childcare?

I saw an opportunity to make a real difference to a child’s life. I have always been energetic and fun and I thought this is a great quality to have.

Have you always worked in childcare?

I was a medical receptionist and an administrator. After having a family of my own I felt I had the confidence to change career. Once I completed my qualification a friend recommended her place of work.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The relationships with the children, I enjoy helping them feel safe and secure so that they can access fun activities. I enjoy enabling the children to gain confidence whilst at nursery.

What is the hardest part of working with children?

When we have new children, this can be quite difficult for the child and parents. I ensure I make the children’s settling in sessions are fun and exciting so that the child will want to return to nursery.

What keeps you working in childcare?

Childbase is an exceptional company to work for. I enjoy the nursery I work in and the people I work with make work a fun place to be. I enjoy working with the children and their families.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in childcare?

Go for it. The job is rewarding, you have a great sense of achievement knowing you are teaching the next generation.
