Victoria raises over £1400 for Mind at Cedars Day Nursery
After months of intense training, Victoria Stone from Cedars Day Nursery in Leighton Buzzard completed the ‘Trekfest’ challenge in the Peak District, walking a gruelling 50 kilometres in less than twelve hours.
Finishing in an impressive 60th place out of 339 participants, Victoria, who is Nursery Chef at the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery in Mentmore Road, completed the trek in 11 hours and 48 minutes, raising over £1400 for Mind for mental health charity ‘Mind’, a cause that is close to her heart.
“Ten years ago a very close friend of mine took his own life after battling with depression. He was just 21 years old. I plan to raise as much awareness as I can in his name as male suicide is the biggest killer in men under 50. We need to help mental health become a subject people talk about.”
Cedars has adopted Mind, the leading mental health charity in England and Wales which offers specialised services, advice and support to those living with a mental health problem, for a year-long fundraising drive.
“We aim to make a real difference when it comes to supporting worthy causes and Mind is reaching out to about 14 million people a year in the UK who are experiencing a mental health problem,” said Michelle Thomas, Nursery Manager.
