Sandfield day nursery team raises record £10,000 for charity
Staff and children at Sandfield Day Nursery in Oxford are ‘outstanding’ charity fund-raisers and that’s official following a record £10,000 cheque to Alzheimer’s Society and help for nearly 1,000 people living with dementia.
Picking up an Alzheimer’s Society Outstanding Award marking the achievement at a celebration day at the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ day nursery in Sandfield Road, Headington, Manager, Kim Hambridge praised her team for their tireless support and creativity.
“I am overwhelmed by their amazing passion, and the excitement they generate, when it comes to raising money for charity. They really are champions and deserve this recognition,” she said, also praising parents for their generous support.
Becky Rowson, Alzheimer’s Society Senior Regional Corporate Partnerships Executive for the South, thanked the 62-member nursery team for their support which will help fund Alzheimer’s Society National Dementia Helpline.
“This is a lifeline for many people who don't know where else to turn, or who cannot always access local services. The Society’s skilled advisers provide specialist information and advice on all forms of dementia, along with emotional support,” she said.
Fund-raising at the day nursery takes many forms from mountain climbing, ‘sleeping rough’ and ‘staying awake’ challenges to cake sales and raffles and everybody, including the children, get involved in organizing events.
Mary Ellis, Third in Charge at the nursery and Sandfield Charity Representative, is described as the ‘driving force’ behind the achievement helping and supporting the teams in the age-appropriate nursery rooms bring their fund-raising ideas to life.
“Absolutely everybody is on board with fund-raising. There has been a real buzz about the place with everybody looking at the total and pulling out the stops to get to £10,000. We are all very proud,” she said.
Sandfield Day Nursery is part of the award-winning, employee-owned Childbase Partnership which adopted Alzheimer’s Society for a year-long fund-raising drive and has raised £100,000 so far for the charity.
Head of Charity at the company, Lucy Thompson, said:
“At Childbase Partnership we aim to make a real difference when it comes to supporting worthy causes and there is no better example of this than the dedication and commitment demonstrated by the Sandfield team. They really are amazing.”
