Making a mark at Windmill Hill Day Nursery

At Windmill Hill Day Nursery in Swindon, inquisitive children have been researching different mark making tools from around the world and throughout the ages.

From creating letters for absent friends with calligraphy pens and ink, to exploring chalk, paint, stones and more, pre-schoolers from the day nursery on Windmill Business Park, Whitehill Way discovered alternative materials to showcase creativity.

Next week practitioners will be creating a post office in the setting’s role play area, complete with various mark making resources including stamps to further the learning experience, as well as watching videos to develop understanding.

Windmill Hill Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Kayleigh Blaylock explained;

“Writing is one of the hardest skills your child will learn so it must be introduced gradually with a range of activities designed to capture their interest and develop essential physical skills vital to its achievement. The children had a brilliant time and we are looking forward to furthering the ways in which we express our creativity.”
