Highbury Lodge Day Nursery celebrates apprentices
Aspiring practitioners at Highbury Lodge Day Nursery in Hitchin were not only being celebrated during National Apprenticeship Week, but were also being encouraged to aim for the boss’s job.
Putting the spotlight on her apprentices and treating them to goody bags, handmade cards and a reward payment as part of the celebrations, Carol Kewley, Manager of the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery in Highbury Road, said her job should be in their sights.
“I want our apprentices to be ambitious about their careers with us and confident that our training and mentoring programmes will help them to develop, personally and professionally, within our organisation,” she said.
“As employee owners, we are all invested in each other and ensuring that the children in our care receive the best possible start in life. Talented, skilled and ambitious young people on clearly defined career paths will get us there,” she added.
Describing apprentices Lershay Rodgers, Maisie Smith and Hayley Murphy as enthusiastic, popular and supportive members of the Highbury Lodge staff team and excellent role models to the children, Carol said they deserved recognition to their valued contributions to nursery life.
Lershay, Maisie and Hayley are not only benefiting from increased study time away from the nursery, but also a full range of new training opportunities. This is following in the footsteps of other apprentices at the nursery who are now qualified practitioners with ‘Key Person’ responsibilities.
Apprentice, Maisie Smith said;
“I love my job and I am very happy and proud to be a member of this team. They have all supported and encouraged me in my studies and praised my achievements.”
Highbury Lodge is part of the award-winning, employee-owned, Childbase Partnership which has 43 day nurseries across England.
