Cultural Awareness Week at Brinds Well Day Nursery
Children from Brinds Well Day Nursery in Orpington are learning all about different traditions, languages, beliefs and customs of the world as they take part in a range of activities for cultural awareness week at the setting.
To support the learning experience, a number of parents from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery in Hawstead Lane visited the children to talk about their own backgrounds and read stories in a variety of languages.
Children and practitioners showcased traditional clothing from their cultures for a special dress up day, where outfits ranged from stunning saree’s to flamenco dresses, before tasting food from around the world, including Mediterranean dips, Jamaican rice and peas and American pancakes.
Brinds Well Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Vanessa Lawrence explained;
“The children love these activities which promote cultural awareness, respect and help them to develop a sense of their own identity. These activities are not only exciting and engaging, but help to build a better understanding of both our local community and the wider world around us.”
