Celebrating Diwali at Knowle Green Day Nursery

Decorating nearly 40 pottery diva lights from India proved a highlight in activities at Knowle Green Day Nursery in Middlesex as pre-schoolers joined millions worldwide in celebrating the Hindu festival of Diwali.

Three-year-old Mishika (pictured), whose parents provided the diva lights following a recent family holiday in India, led the way in the activity in the preschool room at the nursery in Knowle Green.

“The children love an occasion and Diwali, or Festival of Lights, is always popular. It was a lovely surprise to have the pottery holders from India and for Mishika to tell us how she decorated similar ones during her holiday. All children in the preschool room can now carry on the celebrations at home,” said Team Leader, Hannah Willis.

Other parents like three-year-old Eeshan’s mother, who brought in special dishes for sampling and celebratory clothing worn during Diwali, rallied to support the staff team in teaching the children about the traditions surrounding the festival.

“This festival celebrates the triumph of good over evil and knowledge over ignorance which is a powerful message to give the very young. We mark a range of different cultural and religious events throughout the year to give children a broad understanding of the world around them and celebrate the diversity within our local community,” said Hannah, thanking all parents for their wonderful support.
