‘Childbase Partnership will irrevocably remain in the hands of the people who make it successful. Employee ownership is quite simply the right thing to do for organisations seeking to be successful, sustainable and ethical. Success is never about the few and always about the many.’
Mike Thompson Chairman Childbase Partnership
‘We all contribute – We all benefit’ - Every piece of the puzzle was created by each of our nurseries.
Founded on the principle that employee wellbeing, engagement and retention is critical to consistently high quality provision, Childbase Partnership is now the 10th largest employee-owned organization in the country.
The process of turning a successful and profitable family-owned business over to employees began in 2000 when the principle of profit-sharing was expanded with the introduction of an easy ‘Save and Buy’ share scheme - incentivized by a ‘Buy one, get one free’ initiative - and empowering each and every employee in the decision-making process.
That means that each and every one of the 2,000 + employees in 43 day nurseries throughout the South of England is invested in giving every child in their care the very best start in life and an exceptional nursery experience.
As a result the company is one of only 165 UK companies to be rated ‘Extraordinary’ in 2017; a ‘Sunday Times Top 100 Company to Work For’, ‘Best for Giving Something Back’ (corporate social responsibility) and a major contributor in prestigious European research and development projects designed to advance understanding and best practice throughout the sector.
More than half Childbase Partnership Day Nurseries are Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ which is achieved by only 12 per cent of all UK providers.
Emma Rooney, Childbase Partnership Managing Director, said
“Ofsted inspectors have repeatedly told us that a happy and engaged staff team equals confident children ready to realize their full potential and make a positive contribution in the world.”
Childbase Partnership Chairman, Mike Thompson, said:
“We take great pride in the fact that Childbase directors and employees are partners in this business and really do listen to each other. Each individual brings a particular expertise to the table with an emphasis on informed decision-making and collective responsibility”.
Working under the banner “We all contribute, we all benefit”, Childbase Partnership employee owners have easy access to all company information and a voice individually and collectively through the 45-member, elected Partnership Council. Councillors, one from each nursery and Head Office, meet quarterly and are regular and valued contributors at main Board meetings.
